GISELE x GIVENCHY SPRING 2012 CAMPAIGN

There are no two brands I love more than Gisele Bundchen (yes, she is a brand.) and Givenchy. Shot by the always amazing Mert + Marcus , Gisele looks insane in this stormy beach scene. Our (tropical baseball) hats are off to you Tisci, you’ve done it yet again.

THE PERFECT POINTED TOE

If you’ve missed this trend, you’ve been sleeping under a rock… to put it nicely. Here are three of my favorite styles of the pointed toe heel:

BOYS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN

I love the styling on this shoot… Nicholas Galetti always does such a good job and with subjects like these soon to be big-shot models, you can’t go wrong! I especially love the mixed media in the accessories and the printed Nikes in the first image. Jacob Morton, Felix Cordier, Patrick O’Donnell and Jan Philip Zuelke show that not only “girls just wanna have fun”.  Shot by Matias Indjic for Dedicated Magazine.

AT MY HOLIDAY PARTY

I would have this video playing over and over again on a projector on the wall

My decor would be metallic themed … I think red and green is cheesy and the holidays should be sparkly and magical, not kitschy.  like this:

I would wrap all my guests’ party favors in diamonds like this:

I would have VIE LUXE candles burning, not only do they smell incredible but they come in this most divine jar as well.

and I would have an arrangement of books on my coffee table, of course including Carine Roitfeld’s book, IRREVERENT

SS13 GLOBAL THEMES

Today all of the SS13 Global analysis for ladies will be completed (yay!). On the site you can find six overarching trends which encompass Spring 2013’s most trend sensitive content. Although there are no definitive contemporary versus junior trends, we feel that that there is a very clear divide in the presentation between which skews younger. Here is a more intensive break down of the trends. Check back to http://www.fashionsnoops.com later today for the full report.

GREAT GATSBY

With the new Gatsby movie on the verge of being released it is no wonder that American designers such a Ralph Lauren and Tory Burch channeled delicate feminism of the 20s with this SS13 theme. In accessories you see a focus on a more simplistic heel as we move away from past seasons’ chunkier, 70s inspired silhouettes. Cloche hats, fringe embellished coin purses and a washed out pastel palette help to soften this trend.

OLYMPIC GLAMOUR

The key to executing this trend for SS13 is finding the perfect harmony between sporty and chic. We have seen active for so many season but this takes the traditional casual wear and adds a twist of glam. Contrasting traditional sporty material with a feminine silhouette provides the perfect balance. Perforated leather, mesh, nylon and neoprene are key fabrications for Olympic Glamour in SS13.

OCEANIC OPULENCE

The Chanel SS12 show was a huge force behind the evolution of Oceanic Opulence. Although this trend is focused around life under the sea, the true key trends lie in fabrication and iridescent finishes. With sequins being such a huge movement in past seasons, we see a shift into a more muted sparkle with opalescent hues and subtle shimmer. Sky high platforms with lucite soles and seashell encrusted handbags help to maintain the dreamlike world of Atlantis.

LUSTROUS FUTURISM

With an overload of metallic on the runways, we focus our attention to a more futuristic and minimalist sensibility for SS13. Clean lines, sharp cuffs and layers of embellishments, this trend is over the top with glamour. Balmain, McQueen and Antonio Berardi played key roles in helping this trend to unfold. Key call outs include oversized cuffs and chain-mail clutches.

RETRO VACATION

Think back to sun bathing at a retro Motel in the heart of California. Fast cars, late nights at the diner and a youth movement that was sure to change the world. Prada set the tone for Retro Vacation with her crop tops, flame pumps and oversize rose-bud earrings. An innocent color palette gets zest from deep coral hues and kelly green. Accessories range from headscarves to cat-eye glasses and everything inbetween.

RETURN TO AFRICA

Season after season we see an interpretation of African Tribal; for SS13 the shift lies again in the fabrication. Braided jute, colored canvas and feathers help to put footwear and handbags on a new level. We see Art Deco influencing more geometric silhouettes in-conjunction with these new materials creating a “”Return to Africa” unlike one we’ve seen before.

ASOS SS12 PREVIEW

Headed to the ASOS SS12 preview last week and it totally blew my mind. Their use of fabrication is incredible considering the price point. I loved all the tropical inspired hot shorts and mini dresses. The lucite tinted visor and perforated backpacks were so cool too. I am always so impressed by the evolution of ASOS as a private label brand. Some of my favorite shots below….

SEEING SPOTS

I don’t even think Cruella De Vil would know how to handle the amount of dalmatian print showing up at retail all over the world right now. Of course, all of these styles are conceptual and not actually dalmatian skin. (that would send PETA over the edge, I am sure of it.) BUT, I do think its a great alternative to the overkill of animal we are seeing for the umpteenth season. ThOSE Penelope + Coco pumps are DYNAMITE and literally my favorite thing on the internet right now, I would HIGHLY encourage any fashionista in their right mind to swoop them before they are sold out. How do you guys feel about dalmatian? Are you going to rock this trend once our bone chilling Manhattan winter sets in?

SS13 MENS OVERVIEW

In case you haven’t had a chance to check out the Men’s SS13 analysis, its up on the site ! Some key call outs for SS13 highlight the continuous global acceptance of androgyny. Men’s handbags become one of the largest categories while more casual, street influences are noted in footwear. The biggest trend across mens and women’s eyewear was the emergence of a reflective lens and the continuation of colored frames. Overall we see that texture and materials take a leading role in determining the trends for SS13 in menswear. For more info and the full report head to www.fashionsnoops.com

JKC: TIL DEATH DO US PART

Most of you would probably recognize Jessica Kagan Cushman’s Nantucket bangles or canvas totes which sport witty sayings such as “Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner” and “My Other Bag is a Chanel”. Her style of accessories allow the wearer to express themselves with bright colors, sarcasm and a whole lot of flare. When I met Jessica at Premiere Classe in Paris this summer I immediately fell in love with these skull rings covered in diamonds and told her I would literally wear it as my wedding band (someday very far from now). Skulls have a very fine line between tacky and trendy but I really think this style is simple enough to make a statement with out looking like Bret Michaels. Plus, what is a more literal way to say “til death do us part” than rocking a skull on that wedding finger.
